Board of Health to sponsor prenatal parenting classes

Board of Health to sponsor prenatal parenting classes

The Marblehead Board of Health is set to sponsor a new series of prenatal and parenting classes designed to support local families from pregnancy through the early months of a child's life. The program, which has been in development for several months, aims to provide practical guidance and community connection for new and expecting parents in the area.

According to health officials, the curriculum will cover a range of topics including prenatal nutrition, labor preparation, newborn care basics, and postpartum mental wellness. The classes will be led by local healthcare educators and are open to all Marblehead residents, regardless of income or insurance status. There is no cost to attend, though advance registration is recommended due to limited seating.

The Board clarified that Salem Hospital is not involved in the program, and that funding comes directly from the town's public health budget rather than from Best Practice Medicine grants, as previously misreported. Organizers say the decision to offer the classes locally stems from a desire to reduce barriers to access and to build a stronger support network among families in the community.

The first session is expected to begin in early spring, with evening and weekend options to accommodate working parents. Interested residents can contact the Board of Health office for a full schedule and to reserve a spot. The Board encourages anyone with questions about the program to reach out directly rather than relying on secondhand information.
