The Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis recently shared a personal reflection on the importance of faith and family, sparked by a visit to a local school for Grandparents Day. Describing the event as a wonderfully positive experience, he noted how moving it was to see grandparents actively involved in the spiritual and educational lives of their grandchildren.
During the visit, the Archbishop heard from several grandparents who expressed both joy and concern. They spoke of the deep love they have for their grandchildren, but also of the anxieties that come with watching them grow up in a rapidly changing world. Many shared their desire to pass on the faith, even when they feel unsure how to do so effectively.
In his weekly message, the Archbishop emphasized that the ultimate act of love a parent or grandparent can offer is to entrust their children to God. He reminded readers that while adults can provide guidance, protection, and education, they cannot control every outcome. True peace comes from surrendering the future of the young into God's hands, trusting that He loves them even more than we do.
He encouraged families to pray together, to be patient with one another, and to remember that faith is often caught, not just taught. The simple presence of a loving grandparent, he said, can be a powerful witness to the reality of God's love. The reflection concluded with a prayer for all families, asking for the grace to let go of fear and to embrace the trust that God will care for the next generation.
